Marmite Pasta

Marmite Pasta

Marmite Pasta

This easy Marmite Pasta dish is probably the cheapest and easiest recipe on this site. It is perfect for a quick meal when you do not have many ingredients in your pantry.

This recipe only has three ingredients, but thanks to the versatility of Marmite it provides a healthy and tasty meal which is extremely cheap. It is great for students and busy people with little time on their hands.

What is Marmite?

For those of you who have not tried Marmite, you must add it to your bucket list. Marmite is a savoury spread from the UK and is a by-product of brewing beer. During Covid there was a shortage of Marmite as all the pubs were shut down and less beer was being produced in the UK!

Marmite is yeast extract and has a dark, salty and rich taste, and a thick and sticky consistency. It is commonly used spread on toast as a snack or breakfast meal. But make sure you do not spread too thickly – it is not chocolate spread!

Marmite is rich in B vitamins and has been around since 1902! It is also vegan, making this recipe a vegan Marmite Pasta, if you do not use any parmesan, of course. You can also use Marmite to make a vegetarian stock if you are out of stock cubes.

All of my kids were brought up eating Marmite and they all love it. Marmite does have some great advertising that focuses on ‘you either love it or you hate it‘ though!

Which Pasta?

You can use any pasta you have for this meal – penne, spaghetti, noodles, ravioli, farfalle, rigatoni, linguine, fusilli….it does not matter.

It all works. You can even use some fresh pasta that takes less time to cook to speed things up. I used some tri-colour pasta I had lying around which made it all a bit more colourful!
